Briggs, who we believe holds the record for most opening round T/KO's, took his tally to 32 opening round victories with this very quick win. Impressively this was the 6th time Briggs stopped an opponent inside 30 seconds.
Former world champion Shannon Briggs (53-6-1-1, 47) seems to be making up for lost time. The former WBO champion, who was out of the ring for 3.5 years following his loss to Vitali Klitschko scored his second victory in a little over a week as he blasted out the hapless Francisco Mireles (17-9, 5) in just 27 seconds.

The hard hitting Matias Ariel Vidondo (16-1-1, 14) may have been expecting an early night on Friday as he fought for the Argentinian Heavyweight title though it's fair to say that he didn't expect it to come in the way it did.
Fighting against veteran Fabio Eduardo Moli (44-9-0-2, 29), Vidondo may have expected his power to see off Moli, and in the early stages this seemed likely as he dropped Moli 3 times. Amazingly Moli saw off the early assault and actually dropped Vidondo himself. Unfortunately the always erratic Moli then seemed to forget what he was doing and took a cheap shot at Vidondo, a shot he was then disqualified for. This is yet another mark on Moli's record who was also hot headed in his 2000 battle with Walter Armando Masseroni, a bout in which he kicked his opponent and was subsequently stripped of his belts at the time. As well as the fight in Argentina, which subsequently lead to a riot, there was also action in the US and in Australia. The American action saw 2012 Olympian Michael Hunter (2-0, 2) quickly take care of the much heavier Francisco Mireles (15-8, 4). Despite giving away more than 70lbs Hunter needed just 59 seconds to come out of this one with a victory. We've got to admit that we are disappointed with Mireles. We know he was a late replacement but we've no idea what he was doing above 280lbs. The remaining bout saw a minor upset as Oscar Siale (15-13, 5) stopped the previously unbeaten Ben Wrotniak (5-1, 1) due to a cut that saw the bout called in round 4. |
